Renfrew Group offer a comprehensive engineering design service. Our designers assist clients in basic ‘Design for Manufacture’, or readying a component for a particular manufacturing process such as injection moulding or metal casting.
We have recently assisted with the engineering of complex medical devices and equipment design. This includes aircraft seating, water filtration equipment, podiatry appliances, home delivery boxes and a host of consumer product designs. We also offer an Engineering Development Consultancy service in which our designers advise on competing technologies, whole life product modelling and carbon reduction techniques, conventional manufacturing issues and the impact of overseas sourcing.
Our involvement in technology concepts – often before the science leaves the bench – ensures that engineering design and a user centred approach is factored in at the optimum stage in engineering development. This combination of disciplines turns complex engineering design into elegantly intuitive solutions with lasting appeal. It also ensures a fast and effective route to market to maximises return on investment.
The absence of a CAD model or drawing is not an impediment. Renfrew Group can ‘Reverse Engineer’ an original component or a model. Firstly laser scanning the surface, and then reconstructing the component in 3D CAD as a solid model. Our ‘fixed’ surface data capture envelope is 3x6x2M, but our portable GOM system can capture much larger envelopes. As it is portable, this can also be carried out off-site or at our clients’ facility.
Renfrew Group have a number of CAD software systems in-house including Pro Engineer, Rhino, Inventor, Alias and Delcam. We export and receive ProE, Catia, STL, IGES, STEP, DWG, DXF, IPT, 3DM and PRT files. Our extensive design engineering resource is on hand to assist with every aspect of product realisation. This includes manipulation of scanned data and the associated downstream work required to produce useable CAD data. We also offer a CAD repair service where received files contain missing or corrupt surfaces.
Our engineering development teams have access to comprehensive workshops and labs totalling more than 20,000 sq ft. This is critical to the D&D process as physical models provide a dimension of feedback for the creative engineer which is not available via CAD and simulations.

Interactive design studies and in-depth collaboration frequently requires multiple pre-production prototypes. RGi has state of the art facilities to seamlessly provide full R&D support to SMEs, Multinationals, Academic institutions and Public Sector bodies.
Low volume production
From parts and assemblies for clinical trials to simple look-see assessments, we also have precision machine tools for mould-making to close tolerances and high quality moulding facilities in-house. We have product assembly facilities for small to medium batch production of small devices and specialised equipment. Or large scale assembly areas which can accommodate PSV sized vehicles all available within the complex.
